NYC – Kamil Needs Some Help

Our friend Kamil, Phd candidate, Aperture user?, 5D shooter, and proud new E-P1 owner is coming to the USA. He wants to know two things? What to shoot in NYC and where to go to see some good photography in NYC? Is there a short list? I certainly have my list but I never do, see, or shoot the same thing twice in NYC. The pic at the top shows a guy that I bought some photos/art from the 4 matched original crappy framed images on the top – the...

Monday Boredom Blahs And Warning

As you know this site is more of a labor of love than it is a money making machine for me. I did start selling the eBooks at what I considered the best value around about 9 months ago. The feedback that I have received has been very positive along with some kind advice that I should hire a proof-reader. Yeah right, my budget is exactly zero. I do want to tell you that I appreciate every single person that has decided to purchase an eBook. I really really...

Aperture 3 Organization eBook Customers

First – I wanted to thank all of you that have upgraded to the new version of the Aperture 3 eBook but this post is really for any new Aperture 3 Organization eBook customers since it’s release a few days ago. That means anyone that purchased the new version at the full price for the first time. For some reason two people have contacted me (out of way more than that) that told me they actually got the download for the OLD VERSION for Aperture 2. I have checked...

Olympus Micro 4:3 – I Took The Plunge

Remember I was looking for a small camera to jamb in the bag with my Leica M kit? I was thinking of a D5000, an Olympus 4:3, etc. Well after a few weeks of vacillating and fence sitting. I decided to get on with it and bought a Olympus E-P1. Yea I know I was gravitating towards the E-PL1 because as we all know that newer equals better in the digital world. I will tell you how I decided on the E-P1 and how it holds up in reality...

Aperture 3 New eBook

Well it may be a day late and a dollar short but the Aperture 3 update to the Organization eBook is finally done and ready for download. I wish it didn’t take me so stinking long. I swear I started it the week after Aperture 3 was release. I wanted to do a good job, I wanted to rephrase some of the things in the old eBook, and I guess I got distracted by numerous other of life’s little obstacles. After all this is more a labor of love....

Nik HDR Efex Pro – Check It Out

Yep I love Nik software. I guess it comes from being introduced to color control points in Nikon/Nik Capture NX. I find most of their products worthwhile if you have a need for local adjustments, color effects filters, the best black and white conversions, noise reduction, and specialized sharpening. Now Nik has entered the HDR game. As usual the list price is outrageous for a plug-in but knowing Nik if HDR is your “thing” their product is probably killer. As soon as I can get my hands on a...

Film Leica In A Digital Age – It’s Not Just Me!

I ran across a series of posts today about the results of shooting JUST a film Leica with one lens and even if you never intend on doing the Leica thing or the film thing it is a great read. This is a series of comments from people that took that Leica suggestion of shooting a film Leica with one lens for a year (it’s now a year or so later). This is the original post that make the suggestion, and this.. is some other commentary along the way....

Jeanloup Sieff Book – Get ‘um While They Last

Some of you probably know that Jeanloup Sieff is one of my inspirations and has been since I was a young photographer in the 80′s. His work spans decades and transcends his label as a “fashion photographer”. Except for some of the well know iconic people that are in his images that for ever set a time – I feel that his work is as fresh and relevant as it was when it was first made. I have written quite a bit about him and suggested a book titled...

Japan Exposures – Really Great Blog

I know that most readers here are way way more interested in digital work-flow, and gear, and stuff like that but I thought I would share a blog I stumbled onto about 2 months ago and that I find a great read. Not just a one timer but this is one of the very few that are in my RSS feeds. There is a ton of great stuff here and the publisher continues to add new things constantly. It is platform agnostic – it is not anything vs. anything,...

Hey I’m A Celebrity Contestant

Well maybe not a celebrity or a contestant, but I am a guest contributor over at a fun site that is mainly small camera focused (forgive the double entendre – I can never resist, even though you slouches never pick them up). Check it if you have a few. Nice bunch of folks that care a whole lot about their images. RB
