Friday = Controversial Guitar Talk Day

I am amazed at how many musical/ex-musical/guitar people happen to be readers here. Even if just aficionados – is it Aperture? Does Aperture work the way music folk “get it” or what. Anyway I was truly surprised at the number of off-line internet conversations that my last post spawned all prefixed with “I didn’t want to comment but…”. So I am sick of talking Aperture today – I have had way to many one on one’s this week. All of them very pleasant  and with some fantastic photographers and just...

Inspiration From Another Genre

As part of my annual ritual in the spring – sort of my version of spring cleaning once it is warm enough for me to open the windows I have the perennial airing out of the amps. That and I cannot even move my semi-arthritic old man fingers well until it warms up. So yesterday I was firing up all of my beloved guitar amps so they could breath a little. God they sound so good. The Marshall, The 1965 Fender Twin, The Heartbreaker, the Victorilux, The Lonestar Special...

Aperture 3 – File Management Warning

If you use referenced masters in Aperture 3 you are probably going to want to know about this. Especially if you use them on multiple volumes. Somewhere along the way, maybe with the initial release of Aperture 3, maybe later, I cannot be sure. Aperture stopped working the way it used to in Aperture 2 with respect to changing out a volume of referenced masters with a backup volume. Say you have your Aperture library on volume “V1″ and a second drive with all your masters called “V2″. You...

Bye Bye WordPress – Maybe?

Remember the other day when my site was down for say oh….. most of the day. Yep it was freakin’ WordPress again. It only took me about an hour to debug and fix but considering I do this for free and had somewhere else that I had to be when I discovered the hacking… I left and fixed it later. Now here is the deal – I am a little unconventional in that I hate typing in a little crappy web text box, I hate the available image upload...

The Joy Of Photography – Limiting Your Options

Take it from somebody that has been shooting images for 40 years. I have had my prolific years and my lean years. I am saying that in an overall photographic sense – not just a commercial sense. I have taken breaks that have lasted from 6 months to 3 years. When I say break I mean a total break, no camera, no images – none. I have self assessed as most of us do in all endeavors. I have searched my soul to figure out why I make pictures....

Another Example Of Why I Am Not A Landscape Guy

This is the morning to which I woke today. I shot this from my upstairs balcony while smoking my first cigarette of the day – for you non-smokers that is the only one that counts and is probably the sole reason why us smokers do not just quit. When I say I shot this while smoking I mean that literally – cigarette in same hand as lens hand. You would be surprised at some of the things us guys that smoke can do while smoking that have had 30...

The Archetype of My Last Post – Aperture-holes

Remember the post I put up the other day – you know me whining about the chaotic state of affairs over on that web site. I just had to post a link to this one. Typically this would get my sarcastic snarky treatment but it’s Monday and I want to start the week off on the right foot. This is a perfect example of how NOT to ask a question or ask for assistance – especially on a topic that is probably obvious to anyone that has fired up...

Aperture 3 – The Blind Leading The Blind

A little humor for today so please take this as it is intended – a light hearted comment on human nature, mine include. So… as many of you know I try to participate on the Apple Support Forum for Aperture. I am not one of those people that signed up there the very first day I started using Apple products. I signed up specifically to ask a question to other users since my pro-care support contact (the old really good pro-care – not the new one that is worthless)...

Some New Sample Papers Available

You probably know this but in case you didn’t I used to love some of the old Agfa black and white papers. Really love them. They were unique and some images just lent themselves to these unique papers. I recently tried the new Adox MCC and it is dead on Agfa MCC with one exception – the base is bayarta – bright white vs natural. The emulsion color seems identical so does the surface of the glossy. I even like it better for some prints. That is why I...

Check This Nikon Out – Seventy Bucks

This has to be the best condition, least used, camera I have ever seen that was not bought and hoarded by a “collector”.  This is a Nikon FM, not an FM2 which means that it was made between 1977 and 1982. That is really old and this is a black paint version – yep that is black paint over brass – not plastic and not anodized. Typically cameras that have had more than a couple rolls of film through them and actually shot have “brassing” this one has NONE....
