Aperture 3 – Nikon D5000 Presets

Okay – I have a limited number of images to do these from so they are NOT perfect. Here is my first crack at the D5000 for Picture Control Standard, Neutral, and Landscape. Before I finish any of these cameras I really would like some feedback from people that own the camera. I need to know where they are “off” compared to NX2 or a JPG of the same picture control – NEF example images of where they are off as well.

Thanks for this preset!

I just had a quick look at them, with a picture I shot on a walk with my kid today. It’s already an improvement to the default A3 rendering, but not quite there yet. I uploaded D5000_1.NEF to your mobileme drop. Have a look at the tree-row in the back: the greens are still quite off.

I was trying to correct it myself too, be whatever I can make better, it throws off something else: a small improvement in one green hue makes another much worse… Apple ought to get their act straight ;-/

Something else I just noted: I’ve been using ViewNX to convert NEFs to compare them in A3 (I don’t have NX2) and the ViewNX renderings have way more detail in them. Playing with sharpening in A3 improves it a bit, but I can’t seem to get to the ViewNX level of detail.

As soon as I am done playing with the color I will add the required stuff to get it there – remember I do not know if ViewNX has auto chromatic aberration or not but NX2 does and this makes a huge difference with some lenses.

A few month’s later….. I notice that nobody is talking about presets for Nikon anymore? How come? Did I miss another technic to manage the NEFs colors? I did not succeed to get the right pics in AP3 compared to NX2. Is somebody in the house with great Nikon D3 presets? Fred.
