Aperture 3 – Ansel Adams Preset

So where is the download button? Not quite yet. I knew this was going to happen. For you web aware people – look at what searches are really popular. So now we have the Aperture preset market. Yea – I have put a couple of them up for download. Do I charge money for them? But hey traffic=money. Give people the magic solution they are looking for + a couple bucks + bullshit = income. I should just give up on this and go over to the dark side....

Aperture 3 – Nikon D5000 Presets

Okay – I have a limited number of images to do these from so they are NOT perfect. Here is my first crack at the D5000 for Picture Control Standard, Neutral, and Landscape. Before I finish any of these cameras I really would like some feedback from people that own the camera. I need to know where they are “off” compared to NX2 or a JPG of the same picture control – NEF example images of where they are off as well. For your enjoyment and amusement. RB

Aperture 3 – Nikon And White Balance

You can probably guess that I have had more than a few conversations regarding NEF color rendering lately. In the past I have ranted and raved about not only the color wrongness of Apples CoreImage RAW conversions for NEF files but also about the white balance. Over the years the situation has gotten a little better and a little better. It is still unbelievable to me that Apple is about the only vendor decoding NEF files that has not figured this out yet. The rest have so I am...

Aperture 3 – Nikon D300 Presets

Many of you have been sending me NEF files for cameras I do not own – Thank You. I am sure that people that download the presets will thank you as well. I have been working on them here and there. The ones I have posted so far are rough drafts. These are rough drafts as well. For cameras that I do own it takes me a while to home in on what I ultimately use and with some NEF files I have a couple of different ones depending...

Aperture 3 – Show In Project

It’s a little thing but a big time saver for me. If you haven’t used it yet you should definitely check out the new “Show In Project” function that Aperture 3 has added. It shows up in the right click context menu and the File menu when you are looking at an image anywhere but in the project where it lives. It saves me so much time that I made a shortcut key for it. Even if I know what project an image belongs to it is so much...

Beater Camera Follow Up – Nikon D2H – The Beast

I have had a number of interesting email conversations with some fellow Nikon shooters. Some who use Aperture and some who Don’t. A lot of people that I have had conversations with are sending me NEF files so that I can develop some presets for cameras that I do not own. I thank you and promise to get to it very very soon. I am working on a bunch of cameras right now. One of the side conversations that I had surrounded Nikon color, the “beater camera” post that...

Aperture 3 – Tip Search By Album Name

While taking in all of the new Aperture 3 juicy goodness – and there is a lot of it – there are a few things that some of you might be scratching your heads about. Not in confusion of how it works – that is easy – but more like “why bother”. One of the new features – the search box in the project inspector is fantastic and the “why” is obvious if you have more than a couple of projects. Some of the other “little” features by comparison...

Aperture 3 – Nikon NEF Files

I have had about 9 dozen conversations with Nikon shooters over the past week regarding Aperture 3 and Nikon NEF RAW file rendering. Most of them are extremely frustrated with Apple and Aperture and “CoreImage” – I just wanted to go on record stating my feelings on this. First of all if you have been reading my posts for more than a week you have probably picked up on my own personal frustration with this situation. Actually frustration is not the word – maybe bewilderment, rage, disdain, hopelessness, anger,...

Aperture 3 – Adjustments – Chromatic Aberration

Tested this out over the last few days – not that my lenses have a lot of CA but the new adjustment is really really simple and extremely effective. One of the only lenses that I have in current use that has any visible chromatic aberration is my Nikon 12-24 AFS and then it has the most at 12mm. I just wanted to throw up an example of how good this new adjustment is. Of course the Nikon Capture NX2 adjustment is just as good – actually maybe even...

Make Better Pictures – Stop Being Afraid For Your Gear

I never worried about hurting my gear too much. I am not saying that I beat it up on purpose or was careless with any of it. I treat it with respect. That being said I am going to give you some advice on making better pictures as well as a case to use you biggest piece of crap camera to do it. I was prompted to post this after listening to a recent Lenswork podcast about this topic – the speaker regrets not taking some pictures as recently...
