To all those that asked via email...

Yes I did also apply a vignette. Anything else no. Highlight recovery, H&S, vignette. That is it. There is still the ringer out there I will give you a hint it's number three.

RB,
Re New Look
I think it's excellent, with the sole exception of Type Size.
I'm viewing it on a 17" MBP with native resolution of 1200 x 1920 so it may be my problem.
2 clicks of the "make it bigger" button in Safari and I'm fine. Just FYI

Marek,
I have had those same problems and I use a Mac Pro with 11 GB Ram & an 8800GT.
At RB's suggestion I've left sharpening to the end of the workflow and followed his advice on managing previews, and it has helped a great deal.

Robert,
I love the article. It is exactly the kind of thing we need more of, in addition I like the organization of the articles. Because they are relatively short and to the point, it makes an easy reference for specific actions.
I also love the HDR comparison, while I've seen some subtle HDR stuff that is breathtakingly beautiful, most seems way overdone to my eye.
I'd like to see you pursue the topic further, perhaps even looking at Aperture plug ins like Hydra.

Robert,
Another great article. I did mess with this brick before but never got any great results. Maybe because I never used the advanced sliders. Unfortunately, after applying even the slightest adjustment in H&S the loupe becomes almost unusable. When panning it jumps around the picture with a 2 second lag instead of moving smoothly. Same applies when panning in the zoom view. Somebody suggested it may be due to my iMac's configuration. However, recently I tired this on a Mac Pro in my local apple shop and the result was identical. This machine was equipped with 8GB ram and GeForce 8800 GT. Just wondering has any of you guys experienced anything similar.

Craig,

ooops almost forgot - sorry you could not find it, maybe my little tag cloud at the bottom is cool looking but not real user friendly for those actually looking for something.

Just do a search on NEF and you should get there to the couple that are out there.

Hey you regulars -

One other thing - I was expecting some kind of "I hate this new look" or "Cool" or "The navigation sucks where did my tags go" on the new layout. Strange. Maybe it looks too much like it did before?

RB

Ps. I do have a cool new navigation thing following along it's just more work than I anticipated.

Pedro,

As always - great to hear from you and great suggestion regarding the levels with "extras" vs. curves. Give me a bit to think about how to articulate it in a meaningful way.

Would love to see what you come up with when you play with my crappy image. Always fun and educational to let others screw with your stuff in post - I wonder why we don't see more of it? Wouldn't it be cool if you could see everyone's stuff (or at least some of it) before it were washed, ironed, and dried!

Richard,

Cool - I was hoping that somebody would find it useful. I actually revised this post about 45 times cutting out a ton of blabbering regarding the advanced sliders and going for the HDR-like demonstration with a tiny little bit on the halos instead. I was actually expecting a bunch of questions like - "what the f*** you didn't say much about each of the advanced sliders - what the heck do they do?"

and...

I feel your pain on the lack of word on Aperture but look at it this way, the only reason we feel this way is that there are a couple of really cool things in LR2 so us Aperture leaning people can't look down at the LR crowd so much right now. Sort of like Nikon folk prior to the D3/D700 we were sure our stuff was cool - heck we make great photos with it but... there was the little bit of "I want something that is obviously way cooler than your stuff feeling" Don't worry - it will come - for now just do good work and make cool images with what you got!
