Aperture will import all metadata that is embedded in the image file, it will NOT import XMP side car file metadata. There are some tools that I have seen to do this around here and there you may want to see if they are still available. Ian Wood was working on something a while ago you may want to ask him.

I am interested in migrating to Aperture from LR but have keywords I do not want to loose. Does anyone know the best way to import everything associated with an image into Aperture?

Richard -

Sorry I didn't see your comment earlier - been a busy couple of weeks. I have my priorities, some of them seem trivial for apple to implement. Nothing makes me more annoyed than getting a bunch of stuff that I don't need or want and I speculate that not many others do either. I guess the game plan of Apple's with the all projects view was to sell upgrades to iPhoto users. I hope they get back on track soon.

For a guy like me, who uses Aperture only to organize personal images (almost 30.000 now), the actual keyword tools are more than enough.
I do it when importing, or after with the batch menu.
Usually i use tags like winter holidays, summer holidays, travels, windsurfing, skiing, fish, dogs, aqua, that kind of stuff.
Now, the most important use of key wording is differencing the image choices for me and my wife.
On a holidays project she choose some images as the top ones and i another ones.
Mine got the pbl keyword and her ebg keyword (our names initials).
After that, selecting hers and mine images is a breeze.
But i see the power of those suggested improvements for pros like you guys.
I should study a little (?) more about Aperture keyword.
Anyway, i also hate that iphoto features.
Arghhh.

"stop giving Aperture users ridiculous things like “All Project” view so we can have a screen that looks like iPhoto"
Im sure we will be seeing more of this kind of foo foo in the future and not less, unfortunately.
